About the role
- ERM is the world’s largest pure play sustainability consultancy hiring a Senior Ecologist to deliver UK Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
- Role is primarily desk-based supporting the wider UK team across medium to large-scale projects
- Lead from the front as first point of contact for expert BNG advice for colleagues and clients
- Apply terrestrial ecology expertise and UK Habitat Classification System knowledge
- Use experience with the BNG metric and other UK metrics (e.g., SSER Toolkit)
- Develop fee proposals and contribute to higher-level technical writing (e.g., ES ecology chapters)
- Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams and build rapport to ensure BNG requirements are met
- Manage ecological inputs, identify risks and opportunities, balance priorities and plan resources effectively
- Mentor and learn from others to foster team and individual resilience
Requirements
- Significant industry experience in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments
- Full membership of a professional body or equivalent experience
- Background in terrestrial ecology and knowledge of the UK Habitat Classification System
- Experience with the BNG metric and other UK metrics (e.g., SSER Toolkit)
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage large-scale projects
- Strong knowledge of UK legislation and the planning system
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills with keen attention to detail
- Experience developing fee proposals and managing ecological inputs on projects
- Ability to identify risks and opportunities relating to BNG, plan resources and mentor others
