About the role
- Manage and provide regulatory compliance leadership for capital projects advancing through provincial/territorial/federal environmental assessment and permitting processes into construction.
- Work closely with ERM Partners and Project Managers to provide regulatory and compliance management support to clients and lead internal technical teams.
- Lead engagement activities with regulators, Indigenous groups, communities, and stakeholders during project design through construction planning phases.
- Provide technical input and guidance on application of regulatory and permitting requirements to develop technical expertise across sectors and jurisdictions.
- Execute compliance activities including scoping, construction readiness reviews, managing information requirements/requests, technical writing, research and review of data and regulations, and integrating SME input.
- Advise on mitigation effectiveness and implementation, draft permit and EAC conditions, prepare environmental and compliance management plans, and set up compliance management systems with clients.
- Lead compliance reporting, tracking, and audits through construction and early operations; delegate GIS, data compilation and desktop publishing to support deliverables.
- Develop recommendations for clients and build collaborative relationships with ERM employees worldwide; actively support ERM's health and safety programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, environmental management, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting, environmental and compliance management for major capital projects, or equivalent industry experience within relevant business sectors.
- Expert knowledge of compliance and enforcement regulatory frameworks for mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, and/or infrastructure sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines (familiarity with environmental assessment and permitting processes in British Columbia).
- Experience delivering multifaceted permitting programs across sectors (primarily mining; oil and gas, ports and marine, renewables considered an asset).
- Excellent writing, communication, organization, time, and team management skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and inspire teams.
- Experience leading integrated teams providing technical deliverables for regulatory applications and throughout application review.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic guidance to clients navigating regulatory processes.
- Demonstrated experience directing client consulting teams on compliance requirements, tracking, and reporting; leading compliance audits.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous groups, including integration of Indigenous knowledge in environmental management; community and stakeholder engagement an asset.
- English required; fluency in additional languages (e.g., Indigenous languages, French) an asset.
