About the role
- Perform complex hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, including 1D and 2D stormwater modeling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), FLO-2D, or similar.
- Conduct floodplain mapping, delineation, and regulatory compliance reviews.
- Prepare and review technical drainage reports, CLOMR/LOMR submittals, and FEMA flood map revisions.
- Utilize ArcGIS/QGIS for data analysis, mapping, and modeling support.
- Design stormwater and drainage facility designs, such as channels, culverts detention basins, storm drain systems, and erosion protection.

- Oversee the technical quality of drainage deliverables, ensuring compliance with local municipal standards, state DOT requirements, and federal (FEMA/USACE) regulations.
- Coordinate directly with clients, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants to resolve permitting issues and technical challenges.
- Conduct rigorous QA/QC reviews of calculations, models, and design drawings prepared by junior staff.
- Coordinate with project managers to support deliverables on schedule and within budget.
- Serve as a technical mentor to Engineer-in-Training (EIT) staff and junior engineers, providing guidance on modeling techniques and design best practices.
- Assist Project Manager in scope development, fee estimation, and proposal writing for drainage-focused pursuits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
- Current Professional Engineer license in Arizona
- 6+ years of progressive experience in drainage engineering, stormwater management, and flood control
- Advanced proficiency in H&H modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (1D/2D), FLO-2D, or similar.
- Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS/QGIS for watershed delineation and spatial analysis
- Deep understanding of FEMA NFIP regulations, CLOMR/LOMR processes, and local stormwater design manuals
- Ability to explain complex hydraulic concepts to non-technical stakeholders and clients clearly
- Strong eye for grading constraints and constructability issues within drainage designs.
