About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct forensic investigations related to electrical incidents and failures
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary team of engineers and experts
  • Determine origin and root causes of accidents, equipment malfunctions, product defects, and other mechanical failure related issues
  • Investigate electrical failures, defects, or damage in industrial, commercial, and residential settings
  • Determine causes of electrical system failures and assess design/construction quality or maintenance procedures
  • Lead field investigations and document property damage for multi-party examinations
  • Research failure modes and provide repair or remediation recommendations
  • Prepare reports and letters detailing the cause of damage for clients
  • Provide deposition and expert testimony in product liability for civil, federal, and occasional criminal court cases to testify about damages and professional liability.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent discipline required
  • 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering field
  • PE in state of employment or the ability to obtain one within 12 months
  • Willingness to travel to clients’ sites (25-30%); ability to work in inclement weather and various environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with forensic investigation practices and principles is a plus.
  • 5 years’ experience evaluating electrical failures in a commercial or industrial setting preferred.
  • Power systems experience (generators, transformers, switchgear, etc.) is a plus
  • Electro-mechanical experience is desirable.
  • Experienced working with lawyers, insurance companies, and adjusters preferred.
