About the role
- Develop substation physical layouts including general arrangements, elevation views, and section drawings.
- Create and review one-line, three-line, grounding, conduit, and cable tray drawings.
- Prepare bills of materials, equipment specifications, and design calculations (e.g., grounding, bus sizing, cable sizing).
- Lead or support substation physical design projects from concept through construction.
- Coordinate with internal teams (CAD technicians, designers, engineers) and external stakeholders (clients, contractors).
- Perform quality control checks and ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Apply knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA standards.
- Conduct grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies.
- Utilize engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ETAP.
- Interface with clients and team members to ensure project alignment.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Participate in design reviews and client meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- PE license preferred
- 3–8+ years of experience in substation physical design
- Strong understanding of power delivery systems and substation components
