About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Assist with NIH-funded studies on HIV immunology
Utilize simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-infected non-human primates as models of HIV pathogenesis
Characterize viral persistence during antiretroviral therapy (ART)
Test novel immunotherapies to achieve durable viral remission
Perform specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures under minimal supervision
Apply or adapt scientific techniques using independent judgment
Assist in protocol design
Investigate and propose alternative experimental procedures for consideration by the principal investigator
Plan and schedule research procedures
Analyze and interpret study results
Demonstrate and train others in laboratory techniques and equipment operation
Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment
Review literature and compile findings on related research developments and techniques
Monitor laboratory processes for quality assurance
Record study results, compile and analyze data, and prepare charts and graphs
Monitor handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous substances
Work remotely on data analysis and manuscript submission

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
Background in immunology, virology, or pre-clinical animal models encouraged
Fundamental expertise in HIV/SIV immunology, animal models, and BSL-2 experimentation
Experience with high-parameter flow cytometry, tissue processing, and cell culture
Proficiency with GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, and/or RStudio
Experience with non-human primate experimental models
Background with BSL-3 standard operating procedures preferred
Minimum 2-year commitment requested
Ability to provide a CV, cover letter detailing research interests and goals, and names/contact information of 3 evaluators
May be required to work with, take precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents
Successful completion of applicable pre-employment screenings, including verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications
