About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine and specialized animal care duties, including feeding, medicating, cleaning, restraint, and transportation
- Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and equipment
- Observe animal behavior and conditions
- Collect specimens
- Provide technical assistance to research and veterinary personnel
- Perform minor repairs and maintain the animal housing facility
- Train and supervise new technicians as needed
- Drive utility vehicles to transport animals and supplies, ensuring safe operation, daily inspection, and vehicle cleanliness
- Perform related responsibilities as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of animal husbandry/care experience OR certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) and two years of animal husbandry/care experience OR four years of animal husbandry/care experience
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Some positions may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record
- Some positions may require three years of transportation and routing experience in lieu of animal husbandry/care experience
- May be required to work with, take precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents
