About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Grow a multidisciplinary musculoskeletal research program focused on sports medicine, neuroscience, injury biomechanics, and human performance
- Perform highly technical and complex bioinformatics procedures
- Design and develop software, databases, and interfaces for analyzing and manipulating research data
- Analyze and interpret experimental results
- Develop software using Perl/Python or Java, statistical programming, web development, and SQL database queries
- Collaborate with researchers to develop high-throughput data processing and analysis capabilities
- Recommend alternative approaches to improve result quality
- Direct and guide database searches and computational analysis of resulting data
- Provide technical customer support and help implement and maintain bioinformatics software, databases, and interfaces
- Diagnose and fix issues with the bioinformatics team
- Lead projects and manage and oversee team members
- Support collaborations with clinician scientists in SPARAC and the Department of Orthopaedics
- Pursue extramural federal funding for center research initiatives
- Assist with grant and funding applications, conduct independent research projects, develop methodologies, provide user support, and potentially serve as principal investigator on funded proposals
Requirements
What you’ll need- PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, biological or physical science, or a related discipline
- Five years of experience in bioinformatics applications after achieving the PhD
- Doctorate degree or equivalent
- National prominence and scientific leadership in sports medicine, neuroscience, injury biomechanics, and/or human performance
- Clear and prolific record of scientific publications
- Detailed knowledge of advanced experimental techniques in injury biomechanics and human performance
- Experience with advanced analytics, including machine learning, AI, or related statistical modeling of human movement data is desired
- Experience in coupled biomechanics/neuroscience related to injury epidemiology, with preference toward injury prevention, rehabilitation, and sport performance research
- Experience with neuroimaging, EMG/EEG/MEG neuromodulation, software engineering, and best-practice analytical methods for managing, storing, analyzing, and visualizing biometric data is preferred
- Perl, Python, or Java programming
- Statistical programming
- Web development
- SQL database querying
- Eligible experience must be obtained after achieving the PhD
- Position involves clinical patient contact
