About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Engage in observational, experimental, and translational research focused on diabetes and related cardiometabolic conditions
  • Investigate relationships among diabetes, cardiometabolic health, cognitive aging, and brain-related outcomes
  • Develop research questions, write grants and manuscripts, design studies, and conduct rigorous analyses of complex data
  • Analyze population-based cohorts, surveillance studies, electronic health records, large surveys, and clinical and community-based intervention trials
  • Develop statistical analysis plans and harmonize data across studies and cohorts
  • Apply epidemiologic, statistical, and computational methods to longitudinal and high-dimensional data
  • Apply AI/ML, deep learning, and data science approaches as appropriate
  • Participate in clinical and pragmatic trials and implementation science projects
  • Develop study protocols, research proposals, data collection tools, and digital health studies
  • Mentor junior researchers and lead peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations
  • Work with faculty, national and international teams, and collaborating institutions
  • Design and evaluate experiments
  • Develop new ideas that promote current research
  • Prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • Operate specific equipment as needed
  • Teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS, etc.) in an appropriate field
  • Excellent scientific writing ability
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues
  • Residency in the state of Georgia
  • Ability to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs
  • English written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong quantitative, statistical, and programming skills
  • Experience analyzing complex longitudinal data, particularly electronic health records, cohort studies, and large survey datasets
  • Experience developing peer-reviewed manuscripts is highly desirable
  • MD and/or PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, nutrition, behavioral sciences, demography, computer science, data science, biomedical informatics, medicine, or a related field is preferred
  • Substantive knowledge of diabetes, obesity, CVD, cognitive aging, brain health, or social determinants of health is a plus
  • Experience or strong interest in AI/ML, digital health technologies, wearable devices, continuous glucose monitoring, or other computational methods is highly desirable
  • Expertise in or enthusiasm for clinical trials, pragmatic trials, and implementation science is viewed favorably
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills
