About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine cage sanitation and prepare cages for reuse in a research setting
- Maintain cages, monitor equipment, and maintain sanitary conditions
- Operate washers and perform cleaning and preventative maintenance on cage-washing equipment
- Perform routine equipment start-up and shutdown procedures
- Operate autoclaves to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment
- Provide routine maintenance and minor repairs to caging equipment
- Assist with installation of caging and other non-fixed facility equipment
- Receive and store materials, food, and supplies
- Transport caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms
- Maintain sanitary conditions in cage-washing rooms, hallways, and storage areas
- Assist in training new technicians and guide cage-wash trainees and technicians
- Work independently and act in a lead capacity under facility-manager supervision
- Follow OSHA and applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals, and power equipment
- Use required personal protective equipment
- Perform related responsibilities as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of cage wash or animal care experience
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record
- Ability to follow OSHA and applicable federal and state regulations
- Ability to work with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals, and power equipment
- Ability to use required personal protective equipment
