About the role
- Provide medical director oversight of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Emory University Hospital
- Hold an academic appointment in the Emory University School of Medicine and a medical staff appointment at Emory University Hospital
- Participate in efforts to standardize microbiology testing and processes across the Emory Healthcare network
- Oversee laboratory services including culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, mycology, mycobacteriology, and molecular virology
- Collaborate closely with the Division of Infectious Diseases and other clinical services
- Serve on hospital committees (Infection Prevention, Antibiotic Stewardship, Diagnostic Stewardship) and liaison groups
- Participate in the medical director team for the Serious Communicable Diseases Unit
- Teach Pathology residents and potentially medical students, fellows, and other trainees
- Engage in clinical, translational, and/or basic science research activities (encouraged)
Requirements
- MD and/or PhD candidates
- Board-certified or board-eligible in medical microbiology (ABP-MM or ABMM)
- MD applicants must be eligible for a medical license in the State of Georgia
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work closely with the Division of Infectious Diseases and other clinical services
- Participation in hospital committees and liaison groups (Infection Prevention, Antibiotic Stewardship, Diagnostic Stewardship)
- Participation in the medical director team of the Serious Communicable Diseases Unit
- Teaching responsibilities for Pathology residents (and opportunities to teach medical technology students, medical students, fellows, and residents)
- Ability to work with human blood, body fluids, tissues, or other potentially infectious materials
