Provide leadership, technical expertise, and oversight for the Polio Eradication Surge Capacity Support program including program development, implementation, and strategy.
Provide staff recruitment and management; recruit and manage contractors and senior epidemiologists for structured, long-term deployments.
Oversee program budget and partner with CVE Deputy Director and Project Manager on financial management.
Collaborate with Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) partners (WHO, CDC, Gates Foundation, Rotary) and Ministries of Health to develop outbreak preparedness and response plans.
Improve surveillance, lead preparedness planning, and coordinate outbreak response activities in outbreak and high-risk countries.
Identify contractors and technical resources, draft and monitor contracts, track program effectiveness and progress, and provide regular reports to CVE Director, Deputy Director, and GPEI partners.
Lead internal team meetings, build collaborative relationships with CDC Polio Team, and conduct advocacy at international, regional, and national levels to secure resources.
Oversee and develop 5-year strategic plans and provide overall leadership for the Polio Surge Program, including fundraising.
Participate in Task Force meetings and initiatives and contribute as a senior member of the Task Force for Global Health.
Requirements
MD or PhD in a related field.
10 years of experience in strategic planning, program development, program management, and advocacy for international health programs at the senior level.
Able to work in the US and abroad.
Residency in the state of GA (role requires residency in the state of GA).
Able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.
Up to 50% international travel.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to effectively develop a global public health program and facilitate successful implementation.
Proven management and organizational skills, including experience leading, building, and successfully managing a team.
Direct field experience working in polio eradication and outbreak response, vaccines, and disease surveillance within the international development arena.
Experience working with governments of polio non-endemic countries (e.g., Somalia, Kenya, DRC, Syria, Egypt, South Sudan, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Lake Chad Basin countries).
Experience working with UN agencies such as WHO and UNICEF; with national health agencies such as CDC; with foundations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
