About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and develop highly scalable backend services with performance and security
  • Collaborate with designers, scientists, and engineers to deliver products solving challenges in laboratories
  • Help set technical and product direction, including feature and implementation decisions
  • Ensure high-availability operation using modern reliability practices and detailed observability
  • Participate in an on-call rotation

  • Advocate for healthy and maintainable software practices
  • Improve the hybrid object/graph multi-tenant data store for biology and chemistry experiments
  • Develop services to gather real-time sensor data for operator feedback and cloud processing
  • Build a service to safely distribute and execute simulation, analysis, and testing code in SLL
  • Collaborate with the Scientific Development team on data storage, retrieval, and search functions in SLL

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of experience providing backend development to products and enterprise software
  • 6+ years of hands-on Cloud or AWS development
  • Experience with database technologies (SQL or NoSQL)
  • Experience working with startups or small growing companies
  • Full life cycle experience with software product development
  • Preferred: Experience with Kubernetes and Docker for containerization
  • Preferred: Experience with distributed systems
  • Preferred: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern build tooling
  • Preferred: Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), containers, and observability
  • Backend services experience with Go, Python, or Rust
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes infrastructure
  • Experience with GitHub and Travis CI is relevant to the stated technology stack
