About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop and enhance scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring-based technologies
Build and maintain APIs and microservices supporting high-volume, business-critical applications
Work across solution design, development, testing, code review and production support
Collaborate with developers, Business Systems Analysts, Technical Leads and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Apply object-oriented design principles, engineering practices and design patterns
Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and services within complex enterprise environments
Work with relational databases and data persistence technologies
Participate in code reviews, automated testing, debugging and performance optimization
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, development processes and delivery effectiveness
Use modern development tools and explore AI-assisted engineering techniques
Communicate with client and internal teams in a collaborative delivery environment

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on experience developing backend applications in Java
Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles and common design patterns
Experience working with relational databases, SQL and core database concepts
Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development practices
Experience writing and maintaining automated tests and participating in code reviews
Strong debugging, problem-solving and analytical skills
Experience working within Agile software delivery teams
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
Previous experience within banking, payments or financial services
Experience building or supporting high-volume, transaction-oriented systems
Experience with cloud-native application development and modern enterprise architectures
Experience with messaging, event-driven architectures or distributed systems
Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar
Interest in applying AI across requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, debugging and code review
Experience working in consulting or client-facing delivery environments
