About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Install, splice, and test single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables and connectors
- Perform OTDR, power meter, and light source testing for end-to-end validation
- Interpret fiber optic schematics, splice plans, and network diagrams
- Conduct troubleshooting and resolve technical issues efficiently in the field
- Complete preventative maintenance and report potential infrastructure issues
- Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all work performed
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, and project teams to support deployments
- Manage and maintain inventory of fiber optic tools, test gear, and consumables
- Follow all safety protocols and adhere to company and industry quality standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred
- Proven field experience with fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing
- Strong understanding of OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and related equipment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Flexible schedule – must be able to work evenings, weekends, or on-call as needed
- Comfortable with extensive nationwide travel (3–4 weeks at a time)
