About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Duke Energy Corporate Archives archivist
- Assist with archival organization, item description, preservation work, research, digitizing, and database entry
- Organize, prep, rehouse, and catalog donations of various types
- Scan photograph negatives, prints, and other materials to preservation standards
- Review, update, and edit the collection management database
- Perform stack management
- Support additional opportunities as needed
- Learn about the role and function of archives in a corporate business setting
- Develop research skills for identifying irreplaceable and unique archival material
- Learn about collection development
- Observe and participate in collection processing and preservation according to best practices and standards
- Observe and participate in information management, data streamlining, and data cleanup activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year Bachelor's degree in a History-related discipline, including Art History, Museum Studies, or Library & Information Science
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Must not graduate prior to August 2027
- Previous Duke Energy internship or co-op experience
- Copy of transcripts required with application
- Ability to multitask and work across various internal and external customers
- Demonstrated experience with, or knowledge of, public history, archives, or records management fundamentals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Capacity to learn and perform basic archival work
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work productively and be self-motivated
- Interest in history, archives, or libraries
- Archives and digital repository experience
- Reliable, consistent transportation
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work full-time during the summer session, 40 hours per week for 10–12 weeks
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening prior to employment
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Travel requirements of 5–15%
