About the role
- Coordinate with design engineers on project related tasks.
- Coordinate with Regional Biologist on site identification, assessment, and development of wetland restoration plans.
- Perform topographic surveys; equipment may include total station and GPS survey equipment.
- Assist with drafting designs in AutoCAD Civil3D.
- Daily tasks may include data collection and preparation of: Topographic survey drawings, Land development plans, Detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches and/or other drawings, including integration of data from a variety of sources (e.g., LiDAR, GPS, total-station, laser level), Construction/staking plans, Cross-sections, alignments, corridors, feature lines, profiles, earthwork and grading tools, and quantity calculation, As-built/record drawings, Details needed for permit applications.
- Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
- Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Represent DU and NRCS with local, state, and federal personnel, and private landowners, along with other conservation partners in a professional manner at all times.
- Field work includes extensive outdoor activity, sometimes in difficult environmental conditions. Field equipment will likely include ATVs and outdoor boats. Therefore, experience with hauling and operating ATVs and outboard boats is desirable.
- Overnight travel will be required, and work may extend outside normal business hours. Working on weekends is not a common occurrence.
Requirements
- A two-year technical degree in a related field (such as land surveying, civil engineering technology, construction management, computer aided design) and experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Candidates should have extensive experience with land surveying, computer aided design (Auto CAD), and construction inspection/management.
- Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
- Candidates must be self-motivated, goal-oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.
- Knowledge and experience with USDA Farm Bill programs and NRCS Design Standards are desired.
- The ideal candidate should have or be willing to acquire their Part 107 FAA Certificate (licensed to fly a drone for commercial use).
