About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform and review full-cycle accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, cash activity, and account reconciliations
  • Review accounting staff work for accuracy, coding, approvals, and supporting documentation
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and technical assistance to accounting staff and coordinate workloads and deadlines
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and research discrepancies
  • Review transactions for contract, project, general ledger, and direct/indirect cost classification
  • Review labor distributions and timekeeping records for proper contract/project and indirect charging
  • Assist with monitoring indirect cost pools, allocation bases, and indirect rates
  • Review customer billings and supporting documentation for accuracy and contract compliance
  • Monitor accounts receivable and unbilled balances and help resolve discrepancies
  • Review vendor invoices, purchase orders, expense reports, and other transactions for proper accounting treatment
  • Support vendor compliance documentation, including W-9 and 1099 requirements
  • Maintain organized accounting records and audit trails
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for DCAA, external, internal, and other audits
  • Identify accounting errors, control weaknesses, compliance concerns, or unusual transactions and escalate them to the Accounting Manager
  • Assist with ERP/accounting system implementation, process improvements, and staff training
  • Collaborate with Contracts, Program Management, Purchasing, Payroll, and other departments to resolve accounting and billing issues
  • Perform other accounting duties and special projects assigned by the Accounting Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Five plus years' (5+) of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong full-cycle accounting and general ledger experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements
  • Experience with government contract billing, direct and indirect costs, labor accounting, and project accounting preferred
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to review work and provide guidance to accounting staff
  • Strong Excel and accounting/ERP system skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Active CPA license or CPA candidacy preferred
  • NetSuite or similar ERP experience preferred
  • Prior aerospace, defense, or training contracting experience preferred
  • Experience supporting a merger, acquisition, or public-company readiness initiative preferred
  • Familiarity with DFARS business systems requirements preferred
  • Experience preparing for or supporting a Contractor Purchasing System Review (CPSR) preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • U.S. Citizenship required to obtain/maintain a United States Security Clearance
  • Must pass a DOT/FAA regulated drug screening
  • Primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a one-hour unpaid lunch; evening and weekend shifts may be required as duties demand
  • Occasional travel up to 10% to DST’s Southern Pines, NC site or other company locations
