About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Represent clients before the SSA at all levels: Initial Application, Reconsideration, ALJ Hearings, and Appeals Council.
  • Draft legal briefs, memoranda, and Appeals Council letters.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers to prepare ERE submissions and ensure timely record acquisition.
  • Maintain consistent client communication with empathy and professionalism.
  • Monitor filing deadlines, hearing schedules, and appeals using Prevail and ERE systems.
  • Participate in weekly department meetings and attorney strategy sessions.
  • Work closely with supervising attorney on complex matters and receive structured mentorship.
  • Option to participate in Federal USDC work over time (not required initially).

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
  • Prior SSA representation experience preferred but not required
  • Strong writing, communication, and time management skills
  • Commitment to disability rights and client-centered advocacy
  • Strong analytical, technical, written, communication, and interpersonal skills
