About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Represent clients before the SSA at all levels: Initial Application, Reconsideration, ALJ Hearings, and Appeals Council.
Draft legal briefs, memoranda, and Appeals Council letters.
Collaborate with Case Managers to prepare ERE submissions and ensure timely record acquisition.
Maintain consistent client communication with empathy and professionalism.
Monitor filing deadlines, hearing schedules, and appeals using Prevail and ERE systems.
Participate in weekly department meetings and attorney strategy sessions.
Work closely with supervising attorney on complex matters and receive structured mentorship.
Option to participate in Federal USDC work over time (not required initially).

Requirements

What you’ll need

JD from an accredited law school
Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
Prior SSA representation experience preferred but not required
Strong writing, communication, and time management skills
Commitment to disability rights and client-centered advocacy
Strong analytical, technical, written, communication, and interpersonal skills
