About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Ensure operational stability, availability, performance, and security of Microsoft SQL Server environments that support critical business applications.
- Administer and optimize SQL Server environments (2017 and 2022) on on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and best practices.
- Monitor, diagnose, and resolve performance issues, incidents, and database failures, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Lead initiatives related to high availability, backup, recovery, disaster recovery (DR), and resilience of the environments.
- Partner with development teams to optimize data modeling, SQL queries, stored procedures, and deployment processes.
- Drive database automation and modernization initiatives, including Database-as-Code, integration with CI/CD pipelines, and adoption of cloud solutions.
- Define and maintain administration standards, operational procedures, security controls, and governance practices.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security, and engineering teams on capacity planning, platform lifecycle management, compliance, and technology transformation.
- Produce technical documentation and share knowledge within the DBA team.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide support for critical production incidents, maintenance activities, and deployments.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong knowledge of relational database concepts, enterprise architecture, and database administration best practices.
- Advanced experience administering Microsoft SQL Server 2017 and 2022.
- Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and clustering technologies.
- Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Experience with Service Broker.
- Familiarity with SQL Profiler and performance analysis tools.
- Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Knowledge of SQL query optimization, execution plans, and performance troubleshooting.
- Experience analyzing and resolving deadlocks.
- Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and linked servers.
- Experience administering SQL Server workloads in Microsoft Azure, including Azure Virtual Machines and Azure SQL.
- Knowledge of database security, role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, auditing, and vulnerability management.
- Knowledge of Database-as-Code concepts and version-controlled database deployment methodologies.
- Basic knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code using tools such as Terraform and Packer.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices applied to the database lifecycle.
- Experience with database monitoring, performance diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Experience with structured change and release management processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
