About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work with internal company engineers and the open source community on feature and bug-fix requests
  • Identify and resolve ambiguity in product requirements
  • Integrate software products with existing defense systems while ensuring interoperability and security-protocol adherence
  • Own architecture decisions and technical quality across the engineering team
  • Develop design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance guides
  • Track emerging technologies and industry trends to inform product enhancements
  • Provide technical mentorship and elevate engineering standards
  • Influence product direction through understanding user needs and system constraints
  • Participate in a shared 24x7 on-call rotation, including incident response, troubleshooting, and coordination
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, end users, and the open source community

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience using Git and GitHub in collaborative environments
  • Experience building and operating software products
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language; Golang and/or TypeScript preferred
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using OpenTofu or Terraform
  • Strong understanding of system design, APIs, databases, and cloud architecture, including AWS or Azure
  • Ability to assess complex problems, propose pragmatic solutions, and drive them to completion
  • Familiarity with core Kubernetes concepts, including Controllers, Operators, and CRDs
  • Experience working proactively, managing time efficiently, and thriving in a remote work environment
  • Experience developing CLIs, Kubernetes Operators, or OpenTofu providers is a plus
  • Experience contributing to or collaborating with open source projects is a plus
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to participate in a shared 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Willingness to travel 5-15%
