About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead data squads from a technical perspective, ensuring the quality, scalability and governance of delivered solutions
  • Act as a technical authority for the design and implementation of solutions on modern data platforms
  • Support the definition and evolution of data architecture, including ingestion, transformation and consumption layers (Medallion Architecture)
  • Drive technical decisions on data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines and storage strategies in cloud environments
  • Establish and promote data engineering best practices, code standards and technical review processes
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, business stakeholders and BI teams
  • Develop and mentor data engineers, architects and analysts from a technical standpoint
  • Support technical hiring processes, including creating assessments and conducting interviews
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and the prioritization of technical debt
  • Monitor and optimize data platform costs, balancing performance, scalability and financial efficiency (FinOps)
  • Support pre-sales activities, including technical discovery, effort estimation, POC/pilot design and technical proposal defense

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience in Data Engineering with participation in large-scale projects
  • Proven experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP — preferably Azure)
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for building pipelines, transformations and automations
  • Experience with pipeline orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory or similar)
  • Experience with Databricks and Apache Spark/PySpark and familiarity with Workflows, Lakeflow Spark Declarative Pipelines (ex DLT), Lakeflow Connect and Declarative Automation Bundles
  • Knowledge of dimensional modeling and Data Warehouse/Data Lakehouse design
  • Experience with BI tools and semantic layers (Power BI, Azure Analysis Services, Tableau or similar)
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Unity Catalog and data governance
  • Prior experience as a technical lead for teams or data projects
  • Familiarity with the Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold)
  • Knowledge of DataOps practices and CI/CD applied to data and analytical models
  • Experience with multi-platform integrations and multiple formats (ERP, databases, APIs) — nice to have
  • Experience with AI/ML (MLflow, Databricks Mosaic AI or Azure Machine Learning) — nice to have
  • Cloud or Databricks certifications — nice to have
  • Experience in consulting environments or multi-client projects — nice to have
