About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Managing your own caseload of multi-track recovery claims, from initial investigation through to settlement, mediation or trial.
  • Investigating liability in relation to a wide range of property damage incidents, including high value escapes of water, fire, flood, oil spills, impact damage, construction-related losses and other complex recovery matters.
  • Conducting detailed liability, causation and quantum investigations, including analysis of technical and expert evidence.
  • Obtaining witness statements, securing key documentary evidence and liaising with insureds, brokers, loss adjusters, experts and third parties.
  • Drafting pre-action correspondence, Letters of Claim, pleadings and other court documentation.
  • Progressing claims through the litigation process, including disclosure, witness evidence, expert instruction, settlement negotiations and Trial preparation.
  • Negotiating settlements and maximising recoveries on behalf of insurer clients.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, Counsel, forensic experts and industry-leading clients on technically challenging matters.
  • Contributing to client relationship management, business development and marketing initiatives to support the continued growth of the practice.
  • Maintaining compliance with all client service standards, regulatory requirements and the firm's information security and data protection protocols.
  • Demonstrating strong financial and commercial management of your files, including billing, WIP management, recoverability and credit control.
  • Achieving key performance measures, including a minimum annual chargeable hours target of 1,440 hours.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Be a Solicitor or CILEX Lawyer, or have substantial pre-qualification experience
  • Be interested in and willing to learn insurance property damage law, including the basic principles of contract law and tort;
  • Good communication skills to liaise with clients, intermediaries and colleagues.
  • Ability to critically look at factual evidence, identify key legal arguments and apply the same.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm with a professional attitude.
  • Commercial awareness, resilience and confidence.
  • Demonstrates alignment with the Firm’s Cultural Principles (Clear, Creative, Determined and Supportive).
