About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare financial statements, required notes, and year-end letters
  • Ensure planned procedures are completed according to firm policies, procedures, and applicable Canadian standards
  • Clear queries and outstanding points satisfactorily
  • Complete audit sections including walkthroughs, internal control analysis, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, revenue and expenses, analytical review, and inventory counts
  • Complete compilation and review engagements, including financial statements and corporate tax returns
  • Complete complex investment write-ups and T-slip reconciliations, including off-calendar year ends
  • Prepare corporate, personal, partnership, and trust tax returns
  • Review significant assurance engagement findings or accounting and statement-presentation questions with the Manager or Partner and suggest resolutions
  • Handle various engagements and potentially work on multiple assignments simultaneously

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree
  • Working towards the CPA designation
  • At least one year of practical experience in public practice
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS)
  • Knowledge of Canadian Standard on Review Engagements (CSRE 2400)
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian taxation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and dedication
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work with little supervision on routine tasks
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Excellent client service skills and ability to understand clients' businesses
  • Comfort making contact with clients and awareness of client relations and expectations
  • Proficiency with Caseware, CaseView, TaxPrep, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
