About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

The Underwriting Counsel position is responsible for handling large volumes of files, and time sensitive material associated with transaction matters and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assignments.
Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance and provide guidance in the performance of real estate settlement services.
Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and clients, related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
Provide guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
Issue underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Juris Doctor; active and current member of a State Bar
10+ years of experience as Underwriting Counsel
Knowledge of the title insurance industry, including knowledge of its products, policies, and endorsements
The ability to read, analyze and interpret complex legal documents
The ability to apply logic or legal principles to a wide variety of complex problems
Ability to foster, develop and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships
Knowledge of insurance coverage, and real estate terminology
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficient in a variety of computer software systems, such as Microsoft Office
Willingness and ability to learn and utilize new software systems.
