About the role
- Lead the design of AI/HPC enable datacenters from concept to operations including establishment of a standard design for full-turn key data centers and well as core and shell only builds ranging from 100 MW to 300 MW IT.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders including internal teams, contractors, regulators, and customers.
- Be technical POC with tenants and development partners throughout the data center development lifecycle.
- Manage project lifecycle activities: concept design, test-fit, permitting, engineering/design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- Oversee and review engineering design packages, ensuring compliance with industry codes, environmental regulations, and company standards.
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and risk management plans.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, project managers, and contractors.
- Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are integrated into all phases of the project.
- Coordinate with grid operators, regulatory agencies, and permitting authorities to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying lessons learned and best practices across projects.
- Track advancing technologies to maintain relevance in the Data Center space and to review with Copia internal team.
Requirements
- 10+ years’ professional experience in Data Center Design, including both building and campus design for Hyperscale Data Centers
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) or licensed architect
- Strong knowledge of heat absorption and rejections technologies as well as electrical system redundancy configurations from substations through medium voltage systems
- Proven track record managing large, complex engineering/construction projects.
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in schedule, budget, and risk management.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with senior leadership, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to work in the Salt Lake City, UT or Dana Point, CA office a minimum of 3 days per week.
- Ability to travel up to 25%
