About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Counsel students and families through the college admissions process
- Provide a boutique, focused, and personalized client experience
- Help students craft their personal stories and showcase unique qualities
- Create application playbooks covering every step of the process
- Develop plans focused on admissions goals and compelling applications
- Review curriculums, internship options, extracurricular activities, and ED, REA, EA, and RD strategies
- Create individualized plans covering course selection, academic interests, extracurricular activities, and summer programs
- Conduct ongoing research on school profiles, course catalogs, and academic programs
- Guide families and mentor students through the entire admissions process
- Help students build life skills, self-esteem, and confidence through positive reinforcement
- Collaborate with and contribute to a college admissions team focused on reinventing education
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of five years working as an admissions officer/reader at a selective college, with related experience as a high school counselor, independent counselor, or college counseling professional
- Thorough understanding of high school curriculum, AP, IB, ACT, SAT, and other standardized tests
- Experience working with students in grades 7–12, transfer applications, and private/boarding school applicants
- Proven track record of student success across varied academic programs, including pre-med and engineering
- Successful methods for differentiating student applications and building strong portfolios
- Experience with athletic recruitment and other specialized endeavors
- Excellent writing skills and understanding of the current admissions landscape
- Expertise in public, private, charter, and boarding school environments
- Expert knowledge of Naviance, Scoir, and other college admissions software
- Expertise with Common App, Coalition App, Apply Texas, and school-specific applications
- Thorough knowledge of the college process, school types, resources, and environments
- Proven track record placing students in selective colleges, prestigious high school internships, and extracurricular activities
- In-depth knowledge of financial aid, scholarships, and other aid
- Familiarity with high school academic and social demands and competitive college admissions
- Knowledge of programs and contests such as DECA, Science/Math Olympiads, AMC math competitions, Science Fairs, and STEM competitions
- Strong communication, organization, and writing skills
- Proficient with technology
- Patient, passionate, versatile, and dedicated to helping students excel
- Strong desire to grow in a fast-paced startup environment with high autonomy
- U.S. Citizen or National, lawful permanent resident, or otherwise authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
