About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Procure, engage, and review complex and non-complex commercial valuation products delivered to the bank
  • Ensure compliance with USPAP, FIRREA, IAEG, Fair Lending Practices, Appraisal Independence, and Columbia Bank policy
  • Communicate with lines of business regarding appraisal and collateral risk issues
  • Procure bids and award commercial real estate appraisal vendor RFPs
  • Review complex valuation products for credible methodology and compliance with statements of work and regulations
  • Develop USPAP-compliant commercial appraisal and evaluation reviews for credit lending and portfolio management decisions
  • Provide subject matter expertise on complex commercial appraisal methodology and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare FIRREA/USPAP-compliant appraisals, appraisal validations, corrective appraisal reviews, and evaluations as needed
  • Assist Special Assets and Credit Quality with impairment analysis for real estate-secured credits
  • Manage and prioritize the work queue to meet turn-time deadlines and production benchmarks
  • Maintain compliance with department systems of record and appraisal work-file requirements
  • Assist in developing valuation solutions and represent the department broadly
  • Occasionally assist management with valuation program operations and lead working group projects
  • Mentor junior-level appraisers and support staff competency development
  • Coach, mentor, train others, and teach coursework as a subject matter expert
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or the equivalent in education and experience required
  • Active State Certified General License required
  • 10+ years of relevant commercial appraisal review experience or combination of commercial appraisal review and appraisal field work required
  • Strong multi-state experience reviewing commercial real estate appraisals
  • Real estate property type specific expertise, including Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and Special Purpose; national review experience a plus
  • Ability to obtain and maintain additional appraisal licensing in multiple states upon business unit request
  • Sound judgment, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and business acumen
  • Advanced knowledge of appraisal policies, procedures, practices, and documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work at all levels of the organization and maintain cross-functional working relationships
  • Computer and software proficiency, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, appraisal-related software applications, and data aggregators
  • Advanced knowledge of USPAP, FIRREA, IAEG, and other federal real estate appraisal regulations and their application to lending scenarios
  • Ability to work independently and make timely, sound decisions
  • Ability to escalate collateral risk concerns swiftly and clearly
  • Ability to present to small and large audiences
  • Compliance with bank regulations, policies, procedures, and required training
