About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to identify high-leverage automation opportunities across transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory change management, and exam preparation.
Rapidly prototype solutions using Coinbase's existing AI platform.
Own the Compliance automation roadmap with the Chief Compliance Officer and Compliance leadership.
Translate complex regulatory workflows into engineering requirements and communicate engineering constraints to stakeholders.
Define build-versus-buy strategies for Compliance tooling.
Ensure automated compliance outputs are traceable, reviewable, and defensible to regulators through auditability, approval gates, evidence retention, and human-in-the-loop controls.
Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops.

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments; greenfield experience is a strong plus.
Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design for high-stakes compliance outputs.
Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts, rapidly understand complex workflows, and translate them into engineering requirements.
Familiarity with compliance and regulatory systems concepts, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, case management, and audit-ready data handling.
Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration concepts, including agent handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded technical advisory roles, ideally in compliance-tech, RegTech, or financial services.
Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight and focus on measurable workflow efficiency, cost, and quality improvements.
