About the role
- Manage various litigation workstreams relating to independent contractor classification, including but not limited to matters relating to unemployment insurance claims and workers compensation.
- Partner with the Senior Litigation Counsel and outside counsel on managing high-stakes litigation matters, including by taking a lead role with the company’s discovery/litigation hold strategy, drafting responsive pleadings, briefs, and other important documents.
- Take full ownership of the Company’s unpaid revenue litigation strategy, including managing a docket of affirmative litigation matters, partnering with various company finance teams, creating business-savvy protocols and guidance for proactively mitigating accounts receivable risk.
- Manage the company’s third-party subpoena and law enforcement response strategy, including by improving our subpoena response playbook.
- Provide legal guidance to a wide range of cross function teams, including the Company’s product team.
Requirements
- JD and active admission to one or more state bars, with at least 5 years of relevant experience
- Bias toward action and solving (not just spotting) problems
- Ability to take ownership of your work and manage projects independently
- Excellent communication and writing abilities
- Comfort and skill in navigating complexity and ambiguity, and working on a leanly staffed team
- Willingness to quickly dive into new and "unfamiliar" legal issues
- Ability to work under pressure and autonomously, and meet tight deadlines
- Agility and flexibility to take on new tasks and responsibilities when necessary to support the business and legal team’s needs in a fast-moving, rapidly scaling, and dynamic tech company
- Willingness and ability to engage with and interpret data, especially from unfamiliar sources.
