About the role
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Review journal entries and reconciliations; prepare and review financial statements for internal and reporting purposes
- Ensure accurate accounting for R&D costs, clinical trial accruals, stock-based compensation, and collaborations
- Maintain and evolve the general ledger and chart of accounts as the company grows
- Own end-to-end equity administration, including cap table maintenance and coordination with the equity platform
- Prepare stock-based compensation calculations and related journal entries
- Serve as the primary liaison between Finance, Legal, and HR on equity-related matters
- Ensure accurate and timely equity reporting to support both internal needs and external audit
- Own the company's 404(b) SOX compliance program in partnership with external auditors and advisors
- Design, document, and maintain key controls across the close, equity, and procure-to-pay cycles
- Prepare and organize control evidence to support internal and external testing
- Identify and remediate control gaps proactively as the company scales
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the external audit, managing the PBC list and auditor requests
- Maintain a state of continuous audit readiness — clean reconciliations, documented judgments, organized workpapers
- Coordinate with tax advisors on year-end tax provision support and related deliverables
- Partner with the SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting team to ensure close outputs are complete and accurate for external reporting
- Manage, mentor, and develop a small accounting team and/or outsourced resources
- Provide hands-on coaching to build technical accounting, close, and reporting capabilities
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- Scale the team thoughtfully as the company grows, balancing internal hires and external support
Requirements
- At least 6 years of progressive accounting experience; including experience working in or with clinical stage biotech or the life sciences companies
- CPA required
- At least 2 years of public company 404(b) SOX and close experience required; SEC reporting exposure a plus
- Strong working knowledge of ASC718 (SBC) and clinical trial accrual accounting
- Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to operate in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
