About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support planning, scheduling, execution, and monitoring of commercial opportunities and track milestones
  • Coordinate development of short- and long-term strategic and commercial opportunities from concept through execution
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives
  • Develop and maintain business cases underpinned by complex financial models for transactions, strategic investments, and corporate finance activities
  • Make recommendations to leadership based on research and financial analysis
  • Maintain relationships with business partners, team members, and senior management to support cross-functional strategic decisions
  • Support third-party technical and outsourcing partnerships
  • Prepare and deliver presentations communicating findings and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management
  • Gather quantitative and qualitative input and research commercial opportunities supporting Cleco’s growth initiatives
  • Conduct utility-industry market research, analyze trends and competitive landscapes, and assess applicability to Cleco
  • Support metrics, process improvements, decision-making improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support site selection, land strategy, and development activities for data centers, industrial customers, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Evaluate large-load growth opportunities including data centers, industrial facilities, advanced manufacturing, and economic development initiatives
  • Support land acquisition, land option agreements, site control strategies, and real estate due diligence
  • Evaluate development constraints, zoning, utility infrastructure, and highest-and-best-use considerations
  • Coordinate with economic development organizations, site consultants, engineering firms, local governments, permitting agencies, and internal business units
  • Champion corporate culture emphasizing transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and operational excellence
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 3–5+ years of utility or related experience in Strategic Initiatives, Project Management, or Finance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting complex information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work in a team environment supporting all members
  • Strong understanding of the company’s industry and competitive landscape
  • Experience with Microsoft tools and applications required
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and project management skills
  • Strong organization skills and timely delivery of assignments
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, writing, speaking, listening, and corporate storytelling skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Willingness and ability to learn and champion new technologies on the job
  • Ability to exercise judgment with little direction and know when to escalate to the Corporate Development Director
  • Ability to function effectively within a team environment and present ideas respectfully and collegially
  • CPA, CFA, PMP, or related Finance, Accounting, or Engineering certification preferred
  • Experience supporting economic development, land development, site selection, utility infrastructure planning, commercial real estate, civil engineering design, project development, or large-scale infrastructure projects preferred
