About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design the Super App architecture encompassing iOS, Android, and the backend/BFF layer that supports the experience.
Ensure scalability, security, and performance for millions of users.
Define mobile modularization patterns, feature delivery strategies, build pipelines, and secure release mechanisms for large-scale applications.
Specify the backend strategy: microservices, BFFs, integration patterns, observability, API contracts, and data governance.
Serve as the architectural reference for more than 10 concurrently operating squads.
Establish technical guardrails that enable squads' autonomy without compromising product coherence.
Lead architecture forums, technical committees, and governance rituals together with Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, and Product Owners of the program.
Define the migration strategy from the current app to the new architecture, addressing coexistence and mitigating user impact.
Map critical dependencies, technical debt, and risk points; sequence the migration to balance business value and technical safety.
Ensure operational continuity of the app in production throughout the entire transformation journey.
Integrate AI agents and productivity tools into the squads' development lifecycle.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proven experience as a Software Architect, Staff, or Principal Engineer on high-scale mobile products, with hands-on expertise in both iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin), as well as distributed backend architecture.
Demonstrated experience as an architect/technical lead in programs involving 10+ squads, responsible for governance, standards, and cross-cutting decisions.
Track record of redesign or re-platforming projects for apps in production, handling legacy, coexistence, and gradual rollouts without user disruption.
Mastery of design patterns, distributed systems architecture, event-driven architecture, and cloud ecosystems (AWS preferred, given the Porto context).
Deep knowledge of how Generative AI is transforming the software lifecycle, with practical experience using AI agents to accelerate from design to deployment.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and business decisions in executive (client C-level) environments.
Familiarity with effort estimation, metrics such as Business Complexity Points (BCP), technical risk analysis, and non-functional requirements.
