About the role

  • Strengthen relationships with state advocacy partners and expand technical assistance offered to them.
  • Work with state partners to understand and use strategic public financing tools to advance advocacy goals.
  • Provide strategic coaching to partners on campaign planning and coalition-building.
  • Support and facilitate coordination among partners within the state’s child and youth policy and tax ecosystems.
  • Assess state partners’ readiness for advocacy work and advise on capacity-building strategies.
  • Draft template legislation on topics related to codification of fiscal maps or cost models, funding allocation, and revenue generation.
  • Manage grants and conduct legislative tracking and analysis.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in state advocacy and/or policy work.
  • Applied experience in child, youth, or family-focused policy development, education, or public finance preferred.
  • Experience coaching, informing, or providing technical assistance to state entities and community-based organizations.
  • Experience supporting decision makers to make evidence informed policy decisions is a plus.
  • Experience assessing advocacy readiness, developing campaign action plans, and supporting coalition coordination in state-level policy contexts.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate data-related concepts and solutions to professionals.
  • Experience working collaboratively and communicating across internal teams and with a variety of external audiences.
  • Deep commitment to the values of justice, equity, diversity, and belonging.
  • Comfortable with unfamiliar tasks and flexible in problem-solving, learning new skills, and embracing change.
  • Efficient and high-quality research and writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and anticipation of organizational needs.
  • Familiarity and comfort with common technology platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite).
