About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Advise on retail leasing, property and related commercial matters across Sigma's retail network
Draft, review and negotiate leases, agreements for lease, renewals, assignments, licences, subleases, variations and other property documentation
Manage leasing transactions from negotiation through execution and completion
Partner with business stakeholders on site acquisitions, renewals, relocations, expansions and closures
Advise on retail leasing legislation and issues including rent reviews, options, outgoings, make-good obligations and assignments
Support resolution of leasing disputes and property-related issues
Conduct legal due diligence and support business development and transactional matters
Manage external legal advisers
Contribute to continuous improvement within the legal function
Provide commercially focused legal advice supporting strategic and operational objectives

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor of Laws and current practising credentials
Approximately 5-7 years' post-qualification experience in property and leasing law
Strong drafting, negotiation and legal advisory skills
Sound commercial judgement and ability to balance legal risk with business outcomes
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment
High degree of autonomy, responsibility and accountability in managing a portfolio
Proactive, solutions-focused mindset and genuine interest in partnering with the business
Experience within retail property, leasing, franchise networks or a complex in-house environment highly regarded
