About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise on retail leasing, property and related commercial matters across Sigma's retail network
- Draft, review and negotiate leases, agreements for lease, renewals, assignments, licences, subleases, variations and other property documentation
- Manage leasing transactions from negotiation through execution and completion
- Partner with business stakeholders on site acquisitions, renewals, relocations, expansions and closures
- Advise on retail leasing legislation and issues including rent reviews, options, outgoings, make-good obligations and assignments
- Support resolution of leasing disputes and property-related issues
- Conduct legal due diligence and support business development and transactional matters
- Manage external legal advisers
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the legal function
- Provide commercially focused legal advice supporting strategic and operational objectives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Laws and current practising credentials
- Approximately 5-7 years' post-qualification experience in property and leasing law
- Strong drafting, negotiation and legal advisory skills
- Sound commercial judgement and ability to balance legal risk with business outcomes
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of autonomy, responsibility and accountability in managing a portfolio
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset and genuine interest in partnering with the business
- Experience within retail property, leasing, franchise networks or a complex in-house environment highly regarded
