About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Must have hands-on Cisco network engineering and operational support.
- Responsible for configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, documenting, and monitoring the Cisco network environment under the direction of the Senior Network Engineer and Program Manager.
- Demonstrate responsibility for hands-on network changes, as well as for monitoring and escalation.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Network engineer with 5–8+ years of enterprise network engineering experience, preferably in federal, legislative branch, financial, research, or other high-sensitivity environments.
- Must have practical experience supporting Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols, network monitoring tools, network device hardening, firmware upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and formal change control.
- Must have worked in production environments where changes required planning, approval, validation, rollback steps, and post-change documentation.
- Must have experience working in enterprise network operations across Cisco core, distribution, access, and edge environments; routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs; secure configurations; monitoring; vulnerability remediation; patching; firmware updates; network diagrams; configuration documentation; SOPs; and technical support for complex service desk tickets.
- Requires network security controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53 and Zero Trust principles, including segmentation, micro-segmentation, least privilege, 802.1X, centralized logging, secure baselines, strict ingress/egress filtering, MFA for administrative access, and incident response support.
- CCNP Enterprise is the strongest practical credential for this role. CCNA is acceptable for a strong hands-on candidate, but CCNP-level experience is preferred. Also useful: Cisco Security, Cisco DevNet, CompTIA Security+, Network+, CySA+, ITIL, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS, Microsoft/Azure networking credentials, or equivalent network/security certifications.
