About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Validate backup and recovery plans to meet RPO/RTO objectives for PostgreSQL and other DBMS environments.
- Support high availability and reliability across PostgreSQL AWS RDS/Aurora environments.
- Maintain database security through AWS IAM integration, parameter groups, and encryption standards.
- Monitor workloads and query performance for optimal system behavior.
- Confidently support operational needs of PostgreSQL environments on AWS.
- Participate in Database On-Call Rotation.
- Diagnose database issues at SQL and engine layers; collaborate with development teams for solutions.
- Identify automation opportunities using scripting, cloud-native tooling, or observability platforms.
- Perform performance tuning using EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE and monitoring tools.
- Learn and share knowledge of Kondragunta’s diverse application data landscapes (SaaS, OLTP, reporting, warehousing).
- Streamline procedures and develop robust documentation.
- Cross-train team members on PostgreSQL and cloud DBMS technologies.
- Mentor new DBREs/DBAs in best practices.
- Expand coverage to additional DBMS technologies: MySQL, SQL Server, DB2, MongoDB, Amazon Redshift, Neptune, DynamoDB, MemoryDB, ElastiCache/Redis, Snowflake.
- Develop cross-platform DBMS competency.
- Leverage AI-assisted analysis tools for root cause identification and observability.
- Contribute to reliability engineering initiatives improving resiliency, automation, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of PostgreSQL DBA/DBRE experience in 24×7 production environments.
- AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL experience preferred.
- Strong PostgreSQL Administration in production (6+ years).
- Strong experience with AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills.
- Backup/recovery strategies and HA/DR concepts.
- AWS security practices (IAM, KMS, encryption).
- Performance tuning and query optimization.
- Scripting for automation (Python/Bash).
