About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle all aspects of insurance-related litigation.
- Defend policyholders and assert the company’s interests.
- Evaluate settlement options.
- Engage in trial court proceedings, arbitration hearings, and mediation sessions.
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Claims and Claim Managers to evaluate cases for settlement.
- Prepare timely responses to complaints and other legal pleadings.
- Attend pretrial hearings, trials, and settlement conferences.
- Conduct depositions and manage other discovery processes.
- Provide recommendations for additional claim investigations.
- Keep the claims department informed of critical case law decisions.
- Assist in building our Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.
Requirements
What you’ll need- General knowledge and skill level of a practicing trial attorney.
- Proficiency with modern Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to learn and understand insurance policy conditions and provisions.
- Familiarity with settlement values within the assigned territory.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy or willingness to learn.
- Prefer admitted practicing law in Ohio and Indiana or willing to attain reciprocity for either state.
- Appropriate licenses to practice before boards, state and federal courts preferred.
- Must reside in Ohio or Indiana.
- Maintain required continuing legal education credits.
- Property & Casualty Insurance experience preferred.
- Three to five years of law practice is preferred.
