About the role
- Manage projects related to the performance of annual actuarial work for DB and DB/DC combo plans, which includes:
- Census data gathering, reconciliation, quality control, and importation onto valuation software
- Examination and verification of retirement trust financial statements, compute actuarial value of assets for valuation
- Running actuarial valuations and summarizing results for review
- Filing IRS Forms and PBGC filings
- Preparing valuation funding reports
- Preparing actuarial studies and benefit statements
- Coverage and non-discrimination testing
- Lead client meetings to identify client's needs, clarify expectations, help set retirement strategic directions and goals, and deliver results and consulting advice
- Track and meet all compliance standards
- Assist with special actuarial projects
- Review client invoices for completeness and accuracy
- Understand and assist in the interpretation of plan documents
- Provide technical knowledge of pension plans and calculation procedures to Benefits Administration Team for various clients
- Apply understanding of fundamental principles of pension plans, actuarial concepts, pension legislation, and accounting requirements for pension plans
- Pursue actuarial or ASPPA examinations
- Review peer technical work flow
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least six years of actuarial or outsourcing pension experience
- Possesses comprehensive knowledge of industry and professional concepts, principles, practices, and procedures
- Expert knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and professional standards
- Proficient use of applicable technology
- Proficient use of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and enterprise communication and travel solutions (Concur, Skype)
- Experience performing work that requires initiative and leadership skills
- Working towards Enrolled Actuary (EA)
- Ability to contract with and influence leaders in the organization, good at networking, collaboration and sharing of ideas and successes
- Strong problem solver with good business analysis skills (e.g. build business cases, develop and implement plans for business cases, ask probative questions to identify requirements)
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple simultaneous assignments, manage to critical deadlines, with extraordinary attention to detail
- Demonstrate an open-minded approach to understanding people regardless of differences; effectively works with people from diverse backgrounds
- Address conflicts by focusing on the issues at hand to develop effective solutions when disputes or disagreements occur
- Accept full responsibility for self and contribution as a team member
- Ability to travel as necessary
