About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee compliance and reporting for restricted funds, including city, state, and federal contracts and grants, ensuring adherence to funder-specific requirements and regulations such as 2 CFR 200 / Uniform Guidance
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for the engagement
- Oversee accounting practices, audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations
- Assess and strengthen internal controls and financial procedures, particularly around grant and contract compliance
- Prepare financial statements, KPIs, and cash flow analyses for leadership and applicable funders
- Provide steady financial leadership during interim periods, onboard smoothly, and transfer knowledge at engagement close
- Manage relationships with banks, auditors, accountants, and external financial service providers
- Oversee finance staff and/or external vendors during the engagement
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including direct experience managing restricted funding and city, state, and federal government contracts
- Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, GAAP standards, and fund accounting
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with additional ERP systems is a plus
- Proven ability to step into interim or fractional roles and deliver results quickly with minimal ramp-up
- Available for hourly, 1099 contract engagements with flexibility across multiple assignments
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- New York Metro candidates preferred and open to working onsite for clients as needed; candidates elsewhere will also be considered
