About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide in-person support to students, as determined by their IEP.
  • Support student learning in GE classes or SAI classes as whole group
  • Work in tables for both general education (GE) and SAI under the supervision of a credentialed teacher
  • Record student attendance minutes and activity content in provided workbooks on a daily basis.
  • Collect work samples from time spent with them during push in in GE.
  • Assist education specialist in monitoring and collecting student performance data and other IEP input
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials and/or skills introduced and outlined by teaching staff
  • Provide support for students within the classroom environment to enable them to fully participate in educational activities, assigned by a credentialed teacher.
  • Serves as a resource person to various teams (e.g. IEP, Title 1, ESL)
  • Attend necessary training sessions associated with individual students as required by student IEP (e.g. medical procedures, etc.)
  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback
  • Model a personal code of ethics aligned with CAVA’s policies
  • Maintains necessary records
  • Work under the daily direction and supervision of the assigned credentialed teacher while following district and administrative procedures.
  • Maintain high expectations for all students and a deep belief that all students can learn
  • Complete Crisis Prevention Institute training(CPI), as needed for in-person student support.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60+ college units)
  • Have an associate’s or higher degree
  • Have a passing score on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
  • Demonstrates an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude towards students of various age groups, temperaments and abilities (particularly those exhibiting specialized needs)
  • Exhibit ability to handle confidential information and materials
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators
  • Reside in the state of California
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, PowerPoint and experience using them in a professional capacity.
