About the role
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, data models, and BI solutions within the VA’s Data Estate environment using Microsoft Power BI
- Develop and optimize ETL processes to support reporting, analytics, and system integrations
- Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions
- Implement data quality checks, error handling, and performance tuning to ensure system efficiency and data integrity
- Support the migration and transformation of legacy datasets into the modern VA Data Estate environment
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and solution design documents
- Provide production support and troubleshooting for data-related issues and user queries
Requirements
- (BA/BS) or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of related work experience
- Experience in data engineering, BI development, or database development
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Synapse, or Azure Data Factory
- Proven ability to design and implement ETL processes, data models, and data pipelines
- Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools for report and dashboard development
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and validation
- Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality best practices
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a large, matrixed federal program environment
