About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform installation and de-installation of telecommunications equipment and components
  • Identify and resolve problems related to telecommunications systems
  • Independently perform technical assignments on small to mid-sized upgrades and installation efforts
  • Install infrastructure, including racks and ironwork such as ladder rack and subfloor infrastructure
  • Manage fiber and copper cable systems, including Panduit raceway and Fiber Management Systems
  • Determine DC power cable paths and perform wax cord lacing
  • Terminate, clean, and test RJ45, coaxial/BNC, wire wrap, and fiber optic cables
  • Measure fiber optic light levels and perform scoping
  • Perform HTAP grounding
  • Use Microsoft Office suite for requirements review and comprehension
  • Complete redlining, Daily Status Reports, Site Completion Reports, and survey reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • One to two years of exposure/experience regarding the construction, maintenance, or repair of various types of telecommunications or electronics equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of an accredited vocational or technical curriculum in telecommunications or a related discipline may substitute for some required experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of several types of common communications installations
  • Theoretical and hands-on knowledge of and experience with various network devices, including routers and switches, from multiple manufacturers
  • Skill and expertise necessary to install network devices per the DISN Implementation Standards
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphic business communication skills
  • Willingness to travel with other team members to meet installation assignment requirements
  • Active Secret clearance; or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Candidates may be based anywhere in the US but must be open to at least 70% travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations as necessary
  • Government network systems experience preferred
  • Cable running, splicing, and connector exposure preferred
  • Possession of a basic telecommunications installation tool kit preferred
