About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Determine client eligibility for public assistance benefits accurately and within mandated time frames
- Gather and interpret client data through interviews, case-file review, and third-party verification
- Provide clients and applicants with information about programs, services, eligibility requirements, and outcomes
- Organize and maintain ongoing caseloads according to federal and state guidelines and county best practices
- Identify potential fraud cases and submit fraud referral documentation
- Report program changes to clients and update eligibility or program requirements
- Report potentially fraudulent claims or information to Program Integrity
- Maintain clear and accurate records and review caseload information at least annually
- Assist with local and state hearing processes as necessary
- Perform data entry and operate general office equipment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s degree in Human Services Technology, Social Services, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or closely related curriculum, plus two years of qualifying experience; or one year of Income Maintenance experience
- Alternatively, high school graduation plus three years of qualifying paraprofessional, clerical, or public-contact experience
- Equivalent combination of training and experience accepted
- Qualifying experience includes negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, analyzing data, performing mathematical or legal tasks, or determining eligibility
- English/Spanish bilingual speakers preferred
- Current knowledge of agency, community, federal, and state programs, eligibility criteria, timelines, and requirements
- Ability to analyze, comprehend, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and changing eligibility guidelines
- Ability to work with facts and figures and perform highly accurate tasks
- Ability to learn numerous public-assistance forms and procedures
- Proficiency with a variety of computer systems and software
- Skill in computer data entry and operating general office equipment
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with assigned caseload and the general public
- Ability to adapt to change, accept direction from multiple parties, and work as part of a team
