About the role
- Lead and support the design of advanced HVAC and thermal systems for buildings with high operational, reliability, and performance requirements.
- Develop system concepts, calculations, and design strategies that address redundancy, maintainability, and life cycle outcomes, not just code compliance.
- Solve non standard engineering problems where precedent solutions may not apply.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to evaluate competing system approaches and tradeoffs.
- Support projects involving central plants, shared mechanical systems, or campus scale infrastructure when applicable.
- Evaluate system strategies such as central heating and cooling plants, heat recovery, thermal energy storage, and large scale electrification.
- Integrate decarbonization goals into mechanical system design, including electrification, efficiency improvements, and low carbon system selection.
- Collaborate with sustainability and building science teams to align mechanical strategies with energy and emissions performance targets.
- Communicate complex engineering concepts in a clear, practical manner to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
- Stay current with evolving technologies, codes, and best practices related to complex mechanical systems and building decarbonization.
- Mentor junior engineers and support a culture of technical rigor and curiosity.
Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or ability to obtain licensure
- 5+ years of experience designing and analyzing complex mechanical systems for buildings
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
- Experience with technically demanding facilities such as healthcare, laboratories, or other mission critical environments
- Strong interest in decarbonization, system efficiency, and performance driven design.
