About the role

  • Check the incoming area for carts filled with tubes and ducts from shops that require pressure testing.
  • Examine work orders for test pressure, quantity, standard tools to be used, and O-rings for ducts and tubes to be tested.
  • Verify that all test gauges are certified and current before conducting pressure tests.
  • Inspect the surface flanges of ducts and tubes for any dents, scratches, or gouges to ensure a proper seal during testing.
  • Maintain an inventory of standard tools and O-rings necessary for testing ducts and tubes.
  • Install appropriate equipment, including standard tools, clamps, fittings, plugs, and O-rings, onto duct assemblies using approved lubrication.
  • Operate power and hand tools for the installation and removal of tooling required for pressure testing.
  • Use an overhead crane located inside the testing booth to position ducts filled with water for testing.
  • Protect against spray and bursting of ducts and tubes by closing Plexiglas testing booth doors when testing above 400 p.s.i.
  • Verify and inspect the actual pressure test results, checking for leakage, and proceed to depressurization and disassembly of test equipment if no leakage is detected.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance on process monitoring audits and non-conformance documentation, attaching rejection tags to assemblies as needed.
  • Dry ducts using an air hose or shop towel before installing protective rubber end caps to prevent damage to flanges after testing.
  • Document the completion of pressure tests on work orders and route them to the outgoing area or Quality Assurance.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and using personal protective equipment.
  • Keep the testing area free of foreign object debris to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform high-pressure testing on fittings and tubing according to provided specifications, stamping parts to indicate inspection.
  • Set parts to be pressure tested into the test equipment and apply the correct pressure.
  • Use water, oil, or soap to aid in determining leaks or cracks during inspections.
  • Make visual inspections to ensure conformance to quality standards throughout the testing process.
  • Read gauges and convert pressures as necessary to ensure accurate testing results.
