About the role

  • Leads and manages all aspects of insolvency processes, including consumer proposals, bankruptcies, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Acts as the primary subject matter expert on insolvency within the organization, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency in handling accounts impacted by insolvency.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, offshore and external stakeholders such as trustees and agencies to safeguard the Bank’s interests while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Oversee end-to-end insolvency processes, including intake, review, approval, and settlement of consumer proposals and bankruptcies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial insolvency legislation and BMO policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with trustees, insolvency agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Negotiate insolvency settlements and terms when required, balancing customer needs and Bank objectives.
  • Monitor insolvency trends and provide insights to inform strategy and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and implement best practices for insolvency handling, including timely account updates and accurate reporting.
  • Train and coach team members on insolvency processes, regulatory changes, and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 + years of insolvency experience with deep knowledge of consumer proposals, bankruptcies, and related legislation.
  • High aptitude for quickly assimilating complex concepts
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Strong understanding of insolvency processes, trustee relationships, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and local laws pertaining to insolvency – In-depth.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to influence and lead teams effectively.
  • Data-driven decision-making capability.
