About the role
- Assessing the viability and constructability of target land for interconnection and provide feedback to different internal and external stakeholders
- Create layouts for projects (different stages) and evaluate project work needs based on choice of equipment and installation methods
- Design interconnection plans and SLDs for utility interconnection applications and negotiations
- Engineer and design the electrical facilities for solar photovoltaic and battery storage projects: DC array/block layouts, AC layouts, electrical plans, detailed wiring drawings, conductor and conduit schedules, grounding and power studies
- Specify equipment (transformers, low and medium voltage switchgear, etc.) for procurement
- Generate design documents for permits and construction
- Review and update QA/QC procedures for project commissioning and start-up
- Review and approve energy generation estimates and underlying assumptions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience (advanced degree preferred)
- Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Experience with electrical generation projects at a traditional engineering or architectural firm or EPC contractor
- Electrical engineering and design experience on grid-scale, commercial, or utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar) software and electrical discipline libraries
- Advanced proficiency in ETAP or SKM (or similar) power study software
- Working knowledge of conceptual design software such as SIFT/Helioscope and energy modeling software such as PVSYST
- Working knowledge of GIS software and data layers
- Working knowledge of solar PV module stringing and OEM-approved racking layouts
- Hands-on design experience with software necessary for the job functions
- Strong communication, drafting, and presentation skills
- Curiosity in experimenting with new design approaches and a “can-do” attitude toward problem-solving
- 25-30% travel expected for site visits as needed
