About the role

  • Assessing the viability and constructability of target land for interconnection and provide feedback to different internal and external stakeholders
  • Create layouts for projects (different stages) and evaluate project work needs based on choice of equipment and installation methods
  • Design interconnection plans and SLDs for utility interconnection applications and negotiations
  • Engineer and design the electrical facilities for solar photovoltaic and battery storage projects: DC array/block layouts, AC layouts, electrical plans, detailed wiring drawings, conductor and conduit schedules, grounding and power studies
  • Specify equipment (transformers, low and medium voltage switchgear, etc.) for procurement
  • Generate design documents for permits and construction
  • Review and update QA/QC procedures for project commissioning and start-up
  • Review and approve energy generation estimates and underlying assumptions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience (advanced degree preferred)
  • Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Experience with electrical generation projects at a traditional engineering or architectural firm or EPC contractor
  • Electrical engineering and design experience on grid-scale, commercial, or utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar) software and electrical discipline libraries
  • Advanced proficiency in ETAP or SKM (or similar) power study software
  • Working knowledge of conceptual design software such as SIFT/Helioscope and energy modeling software such as PVSYST
  • Working knowledge of GIS software and data layers
  • Working knowledge of solar PV module stringing and OEM-approved racking layouts
  • Hands-on design experience with software necessary for the job functions
  • Strong communication, drafting, and presentation skills
  • Curiosity in experimenting with new design approaches and a “can-do” attitude toward problem-solving
  • 25-30% travel expected for site visits as needed
