About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the in-house legal function as the company's senior legal authority
- Oversee and mentor the Senior Counsel
- Collaborate with outside counsel as needed
- Independently manage high-complexity M&A transactions, project and corporate financing transactions, PPAs, offtake agreements, and related regulatory matters
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on high-value contracts and transactions, including PPAs, EPCs, interconnection agreements, project financings, M&A, and joint ventures
- Serve as a senior escalation point for legal questions from the legal team, including Senior Counsel and paralegal staff
- Absorb a significant portion of the Senior Counsel's workload
- Build and own legal processes, templates, and playbooks
- Manage outside counsel relationships and budgets for specialized or high-stakes matters
- Advise cross-functional and executive teams on regulatory strategy
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active Florida Bar license, or active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction with ability to become licensed as authorized house counsel in Florida
- 10+ years of experience in renewable energy law
- Prior in-house experience at an Independent Power Producer (IPP), developer, or utility
- Experience leading and owning complex M&A, project development, project finance, corporate finance, and offtake transactions from term sheet through closing
- Substantial experience with project finance, tax equity, and/or M&A in the renewables space
- Deep command of state-level utility regulatory frameworks
- Experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex transaction and project agreements
- Experience leading project financing, tax equity, secured financing, and other structured financing matters
- Capital markets transactions and ongoing securities law compliance/reporting experience strongly preferred but not required
