About the role

  • Support and lead the delivery of traffic engineering projects for public infrastructure and private development clients
  • Produce high quality design documents and coordinate with senior staff
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Manage and execute traffic engineering assignments under the direction of a Senior Traffic Engineer
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic signals, lighting, ramp metering, and other traffic engineering tasks
  • Collaborate with team members and clients, complete traffic and photometric analyses, prepare technical reports
  • Help manage project timelines and budgets while serving as a bridge between junior staff and senior management
  • Participate in client and agency coordination meetings and respond to review comments from agencies, clients, and contractors
  • Support proposal efforts by providing project specific technical input and assisting with assembly of proposals

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil, Electrical, or Traffic Engineering in California is preferred
  • Three or more years of experience preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic signals, lighting, ramp metering, transportation electrical systems, signing, pavement delineation, and construction stage traffic handling
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver assigned work under an agreed budget and schedule with limited supervision
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical work and collaborate within project teams
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation for traffic design and plan production
  • Working knowledge of Synchro and SimTraffic, VISUAL, and AutoTurn, or interest and aptitude to become proficient in these tools
  • Ability to interpret and apply agency standards and guidelines related to traffic signals, lighting, signing, pavement delineation, and work zone traffic control.
